Key Snapped Off in the Lock?
Keys bend and wear over time, and one day the tip breaks off inside the lock. Pushing it in further with tweezers or glue usually makes it worse. YH Lock & Security removes broken keys from house locks, commercial cylinders, car doors and ignitions across Las Vegas, and cuts a new key on the spot.
In most cases the lock survives the extraction intact, so you keep your existing hardware.

We use thin extractor tools that slide alongside the broken piece, hook the cuts and pull it out without damaging the pins. If the key is jammed or the lock is worn, we may need to remove the cylinder to finish the job.
Once it’s out, we can cut a new key from the broken pieces or from the lock itself. If the lock was damaged before the key broke, we’ll recommend a repair or replacement.
Keys break most often in locks that are already stiff. Desert dust, a dry cylinder or a door that has shifted all make a key work harder than it should. After the extraction, we can clean and lubricate the lock and check the door alignment, so the new key doesn’t meet the same fate.

Don’t Force It
What Not to Do
Avoid super glue, drilling or forcing the remaining half of the key into the lock. Each of these can turn a quick extraction into a full lock replacement.
- House and apartment locks
- Commercial and mortise cylinders
- Car door locks
- Ignition key extraction
- Padlocks and mailbox locks
- New key cut after extraction
Why Keys Break
Worn keys and stiff locks are the usual cause. A key that has to be forced is a warning sign. A fresh key cut to code, or a lubricated and serviced lock, prevents most breaks. For cars, a broken ignition key often points to a worn ignition cylinder.
Call (702) 840-1465 and we’ll send a technician with extraction tools.
Car keys break too, especially worn keys in old ignitions and door locks. Extracting a broken key from an ignition takes care, because forcing it can damage the cylinder. If the cylinder is already worn, we may suggest repairing or replacing it while we’re there.
Padlocks, mailbox locks and filing cabinet locks can also be cleared, and we can cut a new key to match.
