Top 5 Emergency Locksmith Services Available 24/7 in Las Vegas

Lock problems rarely happen at a good time. The car door shuts with the keys on the seat in a Summerlin parking lot, a key snaps in the front door after a late shift, or the lock on a shop door gives out right before opening. YH Lock & Security is a mobile locksmith based in Las Vegas, and we are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These are the five emergency calls we handle most often, what each one involves, and what helps the job go faster.

1. Home Lockout Service

A home lockout is the most common call we get. Keys left on the kitchen counter, a door that locked behind you while you took out the trash, or a key that simply stopped turning. The goal is to get you inside without damaging the door or the lock.

A trained locksmith starts with non-destructive entry methods. Drilling a lock is a last resort, used only when the lock itself has failed or the hardware leaves no other option. Before opening the door, expect to be asked for ID that shows the address, or another document that proves you live there. It is a basic check that protects you as much as anyone.

Our home lockout service page explains the process in more detail, including what happens when the lock needs to be replaced afterward.

2. Car Lockout Service

Locking your keys in the car is stressful anywhere, and in a Las Vegas summer it can turn dangerous quickly. If a child or a pet is inside the vehicle, call 911 first. Emergency services can respond faster than any locksmith in that situation.

For a standard car lockout, an automotive locksmith opens the door with tools made for that purpose, without bending the frame or scratching the paint. When you call, have the make, model and year of the vehicle ready, along with your exact location. In a large casino or hotel garage, the level and section number save a lot of time.

If the keys are lost rather than locked inside, the job is different. A new key may need to be cut and programmed to the car, which is covered by our car key replacement service. For lockouts, see our car lockout service.

3. Broken Key Extraction

Keys wear thin over the years, and a worn key can snap inside a lock, often at the worst moment. When it happens, resist the urge to dig the piece out with a paperclip or to use glue. Both usually push the broken piece deeper or damage the pins, which turns a quick extraction into a lock replacement.

A locksmith uses extraction tools to pull the broken piece out from the keyway, then checks that the lock still works. If the original key was the only copy, a new key can be cut on the spot. Read more about broken key extraction, and if you want spares so this does not happen again, see our key duplication service.

4. Emergency Lock Change or Rekeying

After a break-in, a lost key ring, or a roommate or employee who left with a key, the locks need attention the same day. If there was a break-in, report it to the police first and document any damage before the locksmith arrives.

You have two options. Rekeying changes the pins inside the existing lock so old keys stop working, and it is usually the faster and cheaper route when the hardware is in good shape. A full lock change makes sense when the lock was damaged, is worn out, or when you want a stronger deadbolt. Our lock rekeying and lock change pages explain the difference.

5. Commercial Lockout and Business Lock Repair

A business that cannot open its doors loses money every minute. Commercial lockouts often involve heavier hardware than homes: storefront locks, panic bars, mortise locks and office suites with several doors on one key system.

When you call about a business, tell us the type of door and lock if you know it, and make sure the person meeting the locksmith can show that they are authorized to request access. Once the door is open, a failing lock can be repaired or replaced during the same visit. See our commercial lockout service and the range of commercial locks we install and service.

What to Have Ready When You Call

  • Your exact location, including cross streets, the building name or the garage level
  • What happened: keys locked inside, lost, broken in the lock, or a lock that will not turn
  • For a vehicle: make, model and year
  • ID that shows the address of the home, or proof that you own the vehicle or manage the business

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a locksmith open my door without damaging it?

In most home and car lockouts, yes. Non-destructive entry is the first approach. Drilling or replacing the lock is only needed when the lock itself has failed.

What if my car keys are lost, not locked inside?

Then the car needs a new key rather than a lockout service. Most modern keys have a transponder chip, so the new key is cut and programmed to the vehicle.

Should I rekey or change my locks after a break-in?

If the lock was not damaged, rekeying is usually enough to make old keys useless. If the door or lock was forced, the damaged hardware should be replaced.
